Protect Your Skin With Sunscreen SPF 30
You are heading out for a day at the beach. It’s the beginning of summer and you can’t wait for your first day in the sun. You’ve been anticipating this through the long cold winter and your skin has been screaming for some warm rays to penetrate it.
Chances are, after months of being covered up, your skin has gotten about as white as it can get. These early days of the summer are critical for you to care for your skin in the sun to keep from getting sunburns which are not only unpleasant and painful, but are also harmful to your skin long term.
You will definitely need to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Once your skin has adjusted to the summer sun you can go for a lotion with a lower SPF or sun protection factor, but early on you should opt for at least a sunscreen SPF 30.
The sun protection factor indicates how many times longer you can remain in the sun without your skin burning. If you choose SPF 10 and you normally get a sunburn after 10 minutes, you will get one after 100 minutes if you are wearing the lotion. The higher the SPF the stronger the protection.
For the most complete protection you should wear sunscreen SPF 30 at least. You will find SPF 50 sunscreen, and maybe even higher, but 30 should probably be enough in most cases.
Be sure you apply your sunscreen about ten or fifteen minutes before you go out in the sun to allow your skin to absorb the lotion. Next, apply a second coating after another 15 minutes in the sun for the best protection. After that, simply reapply if you sweat a lot or play in the water.
Keep in mind that the SPF is determined assuming people use a certain amount of lotion. A very thin coating spread on the skin will not provide the full amount of protection. Spread it on fairly thick and rub it in to absorb.
Also, remember that there are always areas you might miss. For example, the part in your hair exposes some tender skin on your scalp. Just apply some lotion there while you are doing the rest of your body. Also, remember that clothes and swimming suits have a tendency to readjust, so apply some lotion just under the edges of your suit to allow for some movement without you getting a burn.
Although our skin is constantly regenerating, when we damage our skin with too much unprotected exposure to the sun, that damage can be long term. Besides premature aging, you can also develop skin spots and at worst, skin cancer. Better to protect your skin while you are younger so you can stay looking and feeling young when you’re older!
